The Children’s Society

Helping young runaways - in the UK 100,000 children under the age of 16 run away from home every year. Of that number, an alarming 20% will be at serious risk. They may be hurt or harmed, sleep rough or stay with someone they may have just met. What is really shocking is that seven out of ten children who go missing aren’t reported as missing to the police.
There are many reasons why children run away from home or care. Neglect, isolation and abuse are just a few. Our work with young children goes back 25 years so The Children’s Society understand the issues very well and we at St Margaret’s support them as much as we can. If you would like to help or support The Children’s Society, please contact Merle Martin who will be pleased to hear from you.

Open House
St Margaret’s Church supports Crawley Open House who run a Direct Access Hostel and a Drop In Day Centre for street homeless people (and their pets) over 18 years of age and a High Support Hostel for 16 - 17 year old young people. The church provides donations of foodstuff, tins of assorted vegetables, soups etc, together with clothes, which are all left in baskets at the back of the church. Once a month we cook a meal for the clients at Open House. We also donate other types of help when ever required.

Tanzania.

Our church, together with others in the Parish, support the work of

Dr Ruth Huelser in the Tabora Diocese of Tanzania. Ruth has dedicated her life to looking after the poor and disadvantaged people in the area. Many more details and stories about her work are available on the internet, just search for Dr Ruth Huelser.  During her time in Tanzania, she has opened a small nursing home, St Phillips Health Centre, where she nurses and provides care for people with learning difficulties and other problems. She has also trained one or two of the local people to a level whereby they can take over the running of the home whilst she returns to the UK for six or eight weeks every now and again, so as to be able to retain her qualifications as a GP with the ability to practice medicine both abroad and in the UK.

When asked what she wanted most, she said the greatest things we could do for her was prayer and if possible some financial support so she could continue to assist with the provision of wells and a fresh water supply. Should you wish to support Ruth in her work, please contact  Merle Martin who will be delighted to hear from you.
